Sheriff: Woman burns down home, shoots self

LANGLOIS, Ore. -- A 63-year-old woman appears to have lit her own home on fire before shooting herself in Langlois, according to the Curry County Sheriff.

Last Thursday just before midnight, Fire crews were called to a home at 94205 Alder Street, for a report of a fully engulfed structure fire.

When firefighters went into the home, they found Bethany Ann Peck, 63, deceased inside.

The Curry County Sheriff says an investigation and autopsy has led them to believe that Peck died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and the fire appeared to be intentionally set.

Authorities are still investigating, and say the case will remain open as they wait for forensic evidence to be analyzed.

The Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Oregon State Police, and police departments from Brookings, Gold Beach and Port Orford.
