Sheriff: Woman was driving drunk in double fatal crash
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. -- Authorities in Jackson County say a crash that killed two people last month was caused by an intoxicated driver.
On April 2, the Jackson County Sheriff's office says they responded to a two-vehicle crash on North River Road, just south of Rogue River.
Officials say a vehicle being driven by Lynda Mae Taylor, 32, of Grants Pass, crashed into an oncoming vehicle being driven by 80-year-old Jerry Vernon Barrett.
Detectives say Joe David Campos, 40, a passenger in Taylor's vehicle, died at the scene of the crash. They say Barrett died later that night.
Taylor was hospitalized for weeks due to injuries she sustained in the crash.
On Tuesday, detectives arrested Taylor, saying that she had been driving recklessly and also under the influence of intoxicants.
Officials say she was lodged at the Jackson County Jail, charged by authorities with two counts of first degree manslaughter, DUII and reckless driving.
The Sheriff's office says a grand jury will now hear the case on Thursday.
