'Sip N Stroll' fundraiser in North Bend Friday will help missing hunter's family
NORTHBEND, Ore. – 14 shops in North Bend are putting on a fundraising event Friday to help a local family.
At the Sip N Stroll, adults can buy a glass for $10 and visit those stores for samples of wine and beer.
The proceeds will go to the Higgins family.
Father and husband Shawn Higgins went missing in October of 2016 during a hunting trip in Curry County and has not been found.
A family friend says due to the circumstances the Higgins family is unable to obtain a death certificate.
She says without it they can't obtain government financial support, sell assets if needed, or even prepare an obituary.
"It could potentially take months, if not years, for her to be able to get financial assistance, for her to be able to do the things she necessarily has to do to move forward,” says Higgins family friend Candi Runn. “It's really important and I know she appreciates everything … everything this community has done for her and her family."
"It's part of living in a small town,” says Painted Zebra owner Stephanie Wilson. “Something like this kind of affects everybody because we really do care about one another. I think that's really important here and it's something I'm really proud to be a part of."
The Sip N Stroll starts at Engle’s Furniture on Sherman in North Bend and runs from 4-7 p.m.
For more information contact the event's sponsor, the Liberty Theatre, at 541-756-4336.
