South coast woman celebrates 100 years

COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- A south coast woman has hit the centennial milestone.

Four generations of Elma Donaldson's family showed up for her 100th birthday party.

Donaldson grew up in North Bend.

Her father was actually the mayor at one time, and she spent almost her entire life on the south coast.

Faith and family has kept her going, but she says it more simply than that: "I just lived, I don't know," she said.

Henry Donaldson is Elma's son, and he says his mother still holds her ground, especially when it comes to politics. "She voted this fall, and I sat down and discussed the ballot with her and I said, 'what about this,' and she said, 'Oh, I think I'll vote this way.' I wasn't able to change her mind," he said. "So, she knew who she wanted to vote for and who the people were she wanted to vote for."

Besides losing her hearing, Donaldson is perfectly healthy.

She has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
