The Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation and the Oregon Association of Hospitals are both praising Bay Area Hospital for completing a national program to improve quality and safety.
Many doctors feel the achievement is just one example of how the low consumer report rating was just wrong.
"Consumer reports never actually came to this hospital, they didn't inspect this hospital, they got that data out of a database," Dr. Gregory Schandelmeier, an internal medicine physician said.
Bay Area Hospital used what they learned to lower its readmission rate for heart patients, although it is already lower than the national average. Low readmission rates are a sign patients are getting better from chronic diseases. Readmission dropped below ten percent with techniques like increasing patient education.
"We are looking for that really rock bottom re-admission," Linda Mill, a nurse said. "It is not just because the numbers will be low, its because the patient outcomes will be great. That means the patients will be able to take care of themselves."
Mill helped lead the hospital in participating in the national program.
"That's really were we have improved, by communicating what patients need to do when their early symptoms start."
