Storage shed at Coos Bay home destroyed in fire
COOS BAY, Ore. -- A storage shed was destroyed in a fire at a residence in the Empire District of Coos Bay Wednesday.
Around 6:15 pm, Coos Bay Fire Department was dispatched to the reported fire located at 241 North Wall Street in Empire.
Two community members took quick action to alert surrounding those in surrounding homes to exit and to find safety.
"I was a couple blocks away when I looked up in the air and I saw the beginning of the black smoke start, and I decided that I wanted to go and make sure everything was okay over there,” said community member Rafael Jiminez. “I like helping out; it's kind of, I think, a responsibility that we have as society members to help out."
Upon arrival, firefighters found an approximate 12’ by 20’ storage shed on the property fully involved with fire, the report said.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze and had it under control within eight minutes after arriving, the fire department said.
Crews remained on scene for another hour extinguishing embers and investigating the cause.
No injuries have been reported, officials said.
After the investigation, the cause is still undetermined, but it appears to be accidental, according to the fire department.
Officials said the property owner does not have insurance on the structure.
