Student arrested for social media threat against school
GRANTS PASS, Ore. —
A student from Grants Pass High School is arrested for posting a threat against school administrators on Monday.
According to Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, a student alerted school officials of a threat against school administrators after observing the threat on a social media site.
GPSPS was immediately notified and an investigation was launched into the source of the threat.
Additional officers and detectives were deployed to the school for added safety.
Within 30 minutes, officers were able to identify and arrest the 15-year-old student. He was lodged into the Josephine County Justice center for Disorderly Conduct 1.
GPDPS thanks the student who reported the suspicious social media post.
"With incidents that have occurred nationwide, peers of the offenders were often aware of the threats before they happened, but did not say anything. It is remarkable that in this case a student chose to report the suspicious post, even though it may not be the popular thing to do," according to a statement by Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.
