Surgical interns working and learning at Bay Area Hospital
COOS BAY, Ore. - The South Coast now has two new surgeons in training.
They are part of a new residency program through Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.
New doctors will spend six months at Bay Area Hospital to learn from the broad caseload experienced by doctors in rural communities.
Both Dr. Estin Yang and Dr. Isaac Young are originally from the East Coast.
"I spent a couple of years abroad, and during that time I think I decided I too wanted to do general surgery in a rural town mainly because smaller towns need surgeons," Yang said.
"I think I'm looking forward to getting greater continuity with patients and being able to follow them longitudinally over time and really sort of feel like part of the community as opposed to just a visitor," Young said.
