COOS BAY, Ore. -- A university is teaming up with a local college to launch a new education satellite program.

The partnership is between Southern Oregon University and Southwestern Oregon Community College.

It will give Coos and Curry county residents the opportunity to get their teacher licensure from SOU while taking courses at SWOCC.

There are options available for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree.

The program will be launched this fall and is aimed at helping fill the employment gap in Coos, Curry and western Douglas counties.

"We've actually designed it with this culture, this community in mind,” said SOU satellite program coordinator Susan Faller-Mitchell. “By bringing in local teachers and really utilizing our education community here, we think the teachers we see graduate that much more prepared for this community."

You'll find more information on the Southwestern Oregon Community College website.
