Texas man found dead in Oregon lake
FLORENCE, Ore. - A Texas man reported missing July 28 was found dead in a coastal lake Sunday by a dive team, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.
The death of Nicholas Lewoczko, 32, of Houston is under investigation by the medical examiner. The sheriff's office said it does not appear Lewoczko was wearing a life jacket.
The search began July 28 at 9:24 p.m. with a call to the sheriff reporting Lewoczko was overdue to return from a kayaking trip on Cleawox Lake.
Staff from Oregon State Parks, Oregon State Police, Siuslaw Valley Fire and Lane County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue responded to search for him.
Lewoczko's kayak was located mostly submerged and floating in the lake around 1:25 a.m. the next morning.
The search continued throughout the day with the help of a dive team from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, to no avail.
Divers from the Lane and Klamath county sheriff's offices joined the search July 30. Just after noon, divers located Lewoczko's body in the water.
