Wash. Craigslist nanny charged with raping multiple children
TACOMA, Wash. -- A 26-year-old man who sought nanny gigs via Craigslist was charged Tuesday with sexually abusing multiple young children over the past two years.
Jonathan Harris is facing charges of four counts of child rape, as well as child molestation and possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexual acts. He is currently being held on $2 million bail.
According to charging documents filed with the Pierce County Superior Court, a woman who hired Harris to watch her 5-year-old son on Sundays contacted the Pierce County Sheriff's Office Feb. 3 after her son told her Harris took him to a Super Bowl party and molested him.
The victim reportedly told his mother Harris had shown him a video of an 8-year-old boy in his underpants and said he used to hang out naked with him.
The victim's mother tracked down the mother of the other boy via Harris' Facebook page and reported what her son told her.
According to the charging documents, the mother of the 8-year-old called the Sheriff's Office Feb. 6 and told detectives Harris had babysat for her for two years until they moved out of state in November 2013. She said Harris still contacts her son through Skype and phone calls.
According to the documents, her son said he and Harris took pictures of each other naked and had sexual intercourse multiple times starting when he was 6 and occurring three or more times per week for two years. He also said Harris sexually abused his 13-year-old cousin, who has special needs, on one occasion in a hotel room.
The mother of the victim's cousin contacted the Tacoma Police Department Feb. 6 to report the abuse to her son, according to the charging documents.
Detectives searched a search warrant at Harris' home and discovered sexually explicit photos of Harris and the 8-year-old victim, according to the documents.
