Pedestrian sting tickets drivers

NORTH BEND, Ore.-The North Bend Police Department held a pedestrian safety operation on Virginia Ave. and Marion St.

A decoy pedestrian crossed the busy intersection to see if drivers obeyed the right of way laws.

Several police cars were standing by to issue citations and warnings.

"We notice that drivers become more aware once we do these and its through education that's why we do it, to teach drivers the laws," Detective John Bohanan said. "We can do it a couple different ways, by giving them warnings or a citation."

Surprisingly many drivers passed right through the crosswalk.

Drivers must stop for pedestrians once they have entered the crosswalk.

Once the pedestrian has passed the drivers lane plus six feet it is safe to continue driving.
