Eugene woman drives car off cliff on Oregon Coast
YACHATS, Ore. - A Eugene woman attacked her boyfriend and a woman at a bar before speeding off in her car and driving off a cliff at full speed Saturday, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.
Maya Thomas, 41, suffered serious injuries when her car sailed off the cliff at Yachats State Park and crashed onto the rocks and surf below March 2, 2013.
Investigators said Thomas attacked her boyfriend and a woman at the Underground Pub in Yachats before taking off in her car.
Thomas nearly hit several bystanders near the Yachats Post Office, then drove across the lawn at the state park, nearly hitting a car with a family of four inside, the sheriff's office said.
She drove off the cliff at full speed, witnesses told the sheriff's office.
Medics pulled her from the wreckage and took her to Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport. Thomas was later taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries.
Thomas was cited for DUII. Several other criminal charges are pending, the sheriff's office said.
A local tow company was able to remove the vehicle from the rocks.
