Hikers looking for eagles get stuck in Beaver Marsh
COQUILLE, Ore. - A couple who went hiking to look for eagles Wednesday morning got lost in swamp brush and had to call 911 for help.
The couple called for help at 10:40 p.m., more than 12 hours after they set out on their hike.
The man had lost his sandals in the process and was barefoot.
A deputy located the two in an area known as the Beaver Marsh, north of Coquille. The swamp vegetation kept him from reaching them.
The deputy called for a Coos County marine deputy in a small boat. The vegetation and access to the waterway delayed the rescue until 4 a.m.
Neither hiker required medical attention, the sheriff's office said.
