SISTERS, Ore. (AP) A wind-fanned wildfire southwest of Sisters has quickly spread over more than 4,300 acres and forced the evacuation of trails and campsites.
The Pole Creek fire started four miles northeast of North Sister Sunday morning, sending a billowing smoke plume into the sky.
Kristen Bowles at the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center says notices have been distributed to area homes warning residents to be ready to leave. Search teams helped evacuate dozens of hikers and campers. Forest Service roads 16 and 15 are closed, and the state Department of Transportation closed Highway 242.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
