Skiers stuck in snow dug cave for warmth, rescued hours later
LANE COUNTY, Ore. —
Two skiers who got stuck in snow Sunday evening dug a cave to stay warm overnight while waiting to be rescued.
The pair called Lane County Sheriff's Office around 7:45 p.m. while they were on USFS Road 439 south of Oakridge.
They were heading to Warner Mountain Lookout when heavy snowfall stopped them from going any further. Their cell phones were charged and they were able to give rescuers their exact locations. While they waited for help, they dug a snow cave to stay warm. They were rescued around 4 a.m. and are expected to be OK.
