Voters shoot down Bandon lighting ordinance

BANDON, Ore. -- Bandon voters have rejected a dark skies exterior lighting ordinance, that would have placed new regulations on outdoor lights within city limits.

The dark skies ordinance was voted down 56% to 44%.

Ballots were mailed out in late February and were due Tuesday night.

Opponents of the measure, who put the ordinance on a special election ballot, said they were concerned about their property rights and possible enforcement issues with government agencies outside of city limits.
