Marshfield senior, 3-time state wrestling champ, signs with Oklahoma State
COOS BAY, Ore. -- A local high school athlete is set to attend one of the best wresting universities in the country.
Travis Wittlake Jr. signed a letter of intent with Oklahoma State University Monday.
The Marshfield High School senior is a three-time wrestling state champion.
He has won the national championship and earned a bronze medal at the Junior World Games.
Travis says Oklahoma State was a great fit and he can't wait to attend and inspire others in the area to dream big.
"I'm happy that I have been successful because it's something people can look at and thrive off of,” said Wittlake, Jr. “I not only do this for myself, but I do it for my community."
Those who know Travis say that while his accomplishments are impressive, he’s far more impressive as a person.
"A lot of kids with what he's accomplished would have a huge ego, and he's just this opposite,” Marshfield High Athletic Director Greg Mulkey said, “he's small town boy; he's just a wonderful young man."
Wittlake, Jr. will attend OSU next fall.
