CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) Roberto Nelson had a season-high 26 points Saturday to lead Oregon State to an 85-54 win against Grambling State.
Ahmad Starks added 17 points and Eric Moreland 14 points and 13 rebounds for Oregon State (5-2).
Terry Rose had 19 points for Grambling State (0-6), which has lost all of its games this season by at least 26 points.
Nelson, a junior guard, set a new career high with nine field goals and tied another with five 3-pointers. He was 9 of 13 shooting overall and added four rebounds and three steals.
Nelson said he worked in practice on getting his feet set and catching the ball cleanly to help with his shooting.
He was a combined 0 for 6 from 3-point range the past two games before going 5 of 6 from beyond the arc Saturday.
"For once they were starting to go in," Nelson said. "It just felt good to finally make a couple."
Moreland's 14 points tied a career high. He now had three straight games with double-digit rebounds.
Oregon State scored the game's first nine points and led 18-3 less than six minutes into the game.
Grambling State, which got 12 points from Derron Hobbs, got no closer than 11 points the rest of the first half. The Beavers used a 13-1 run to lead 46-22 at halftime.
All five of Nelson's 3-pointers came in the first half, leading Oregon State with 20 points at the break.
The Beavers led by as many as 41 in the second half.
Oregon State was playing its first game since giving current No. 9 Kansas a scare on Nov. 30 in Kansas City, Mo., before falling 84-78.
Starks followed up a career-high seven 3-pointers against the Jayhawks with five (on seven attempts) Saturday. It's his third game this season with five or more 3-pointers.
"It's coming in the flow of the offense and I was able to knock them down," Starks said. "Just a normal shot. I want to keep that going."
Oregon State shot 29 of 69 overall and 16 of 29 at the free-throw line. Grambling State was 19 of 53 and 8 of 10, respectively.
