North Bend to play Cottage Grove for 4A football title
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Plenty of high school football action over the weekend included a couple of teams from the south coast in the state semifinals.
The North Bend Bulldogs took on Estacada in the 4A semis at Cottage Grove High School on Saturday.
The Bulldogs kept their perfect record intact with a 49-24 win over the Rangers.
It wasn’t the first trip to the semifinals for many Bulldog seniors.
"I think this is our fifth year playing in a semifinal football game,” said head coach Gary Prince. “Our seniors have played in the last three; we won two, lost one. They understand what it feels like to not win the game as well."
North Bend now plays for the state title against Cottage Grove.
"Just expect a lot of passing,” says senior WR/CB Roger Iparraguirre. “Our secondary is pretty solid; our run game is phenomenal. We're just getting ready for everything."
"I think everyone is sticking together,” says senior QB/DB Brody Lucero, “I mean, we're a giant family and everyone just loves each other. Everyone is so pumped up and everyone is focused. Best practicing team I've ever been a part of."
The state championship game is Saturday afternoon in Hillsboro.
In the 3A playoffs, second-ranked Coquille took on third-ranked Harrisburg in the semifinals.
The Red Devils were a force to reckon with this season, but Coquille fell to the Eagles Saturday, 28-22.
Harrisburg meets Salem Academy for the 3A title Saturday.
