Steve Prefontiane would have been 67 this week
EUGENE, Ore. – Thursday, January 25, marked a special birthday in the sports world - Steve Prefontaine.
Pre would have turned 67 Thursday.
The most influential American runner of all time made art when he hit the track.
Guided by guts, he won six NCAA titles and set 15 American records at every distance from two miles through 10k.
As competitive as they come, he was equally confident.
He left behind great quotes like, “Somebody may beat me, but they are going to have to bleed to do it,” and, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”
Prefontaine graduated from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay in 1969.
