Elmira, North Bend, Sutherlin, Philomath win to make state

Jessep Fay scored 22 points and Mikah Reed had 16 to lead Elmira past South Umpqua 71-45 as the Falcons advance to the 4A state tournament.

Elmira led by 16 at halftime following a three pointer by Fay just before the second quarter buzzer sounded.

The Lancers cut the lead to 11 by the end of the third quarter and came to within nine on a D.J. Holloway fade away jumper to start the fourth quarter. But that's as close as South Umpqua would get.

Elmira will play Cascade in the tournament's first game on Tuesday at 1:30pm at Gill Coliseum.

Also advancing to the state tournament out of the Far West League was North Bend and Sutherlin.

North Bend beat Newport 66-53 while Sutherlin defeated Madras 50-42.

North Bend will play Philomath at the state tournament at 3:15pm on Tuesday. The Warriors knocked off Baker 49-41.
