Hillsboro High School's football coach has been placed on administrative leave as administrators investigate an undisclosed incident earlier this month.

The school district says Adam Reese, who also teaches physical education, was placed on leave last Thursday immediately after administrators learned of an alleged incident that happened during an Oct. 13 varsity football game at Milwaukie High School.

Hillsboro won the game 44 to 20.

Beth Graser, a district spokeswoman, would not say how long the investigation is expected to last.

"We need to ensure students have their due process, that they're safe, that parents have the assurance that when students are in our care, we're taking good care of them," Graser said, "and that our staff have the protection of their employment with us and a right to you know all the due process that their afforded in that instance as well."

A spokesman for the Milwaukie Police Department said via email, "Although we are aware of an incident we do not have an open case at this time."

"Everybody loved him. You know, all the kids really," Lillian Arellano, the mother of a Hillsboro High student, told KATU Tuesday. "He was strict, but everybody cared about him a lot."

Reese did not immediately respond to multiple messages left by KATU on Tuesday.

The school's principal, Lou Bailey, sent the following letter to parents and staff Monday:

Dear Hilhi Staff and Football Parents,

Typically we would not proactively share information about confidential personnel matters, however we have been contacted by the media regarding a current situation so I wanted to give you a heads-up as it is likely to be on tonight’s news.

Coach Adam Reese is currently on administrative leave as we look into an incident that allegedly took place at the Hilhi vs. Milwaukie football game on October 13, 2016. Putting staff members on administrative leave is a normal part of the process we follow as we conduct investigations.

Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to share additional details at this time.

Thank you for understanding.

Lou Bailey
