Ellen joined the KVAL team in June 2015, and ever since, every day has been an adventure!

She was born and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland- so naturally she's a fan of Old Bay, steamed crabs and of course the patron saint of Baltimore: John Waters. She didn't always dream of becoming a journalist- in her childhood, she thought about becoming a veterinarian video-game designer who writes books in her spare time. In high school, she joined the school newspaper and settled for journalist.

In 2012, Ellen decided to expand her horizons and move to Clemson University, South Carolina for college. After a disastrous first night that included crying and eating Wendy's on the floor of her dorm, she found her community by joining the student-run TV station, Tigervision. She quickly made a name for herself as a freshman doing man-on-the-street interviews about pop culture.

During her sophomore spring semester, Ellen moved to Washington D.C to intern with C-SPAN's interview show Washington Journal. She had a great time meeting fascinating people and navigating the glorious D.C metro.

Ellen also interned for KUTV, a Salt Lake City station. She went live on TV for the first time there- reporting on a Jell-o fight taking place that weekend! In senior year, Ellen created a news blog and extensively covered the student protests that dominated Clemson that year. This earned her contacts in both local and global media, as well as a part-time job at the Seneca Journal newspaper.

Near graduation time, Ellen was offered a job at KVAL and happily accepted. She packed up her belongings, found an apartment, and tearfully said goodbye to her pet hamster before shipping off to the great state of Oregon.

In her spare time, Ellen enjoys writing fiction, exploring new places and trying new restaurants. She holds dual citizenship in Italy and the United States, so you can usually find her either cooking or talking to her Worried Italian Mom.
