Jackie Garrity anchors the KVAL News every evening from 5, 6 and 11pm. She comes to us from our sister station in Medford, KTVL, where she was the overnight Producer and Morning Anchor. She is extremely excited to be in the Willamette Valley and close to home. She grew up in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, just outside of Portland.
Jackie attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA where she has a Bachelor of Arts in Fine and Performing Arts. before heading out to New York City where she began her path in television. While in New York, Jackie internet at Speaking Channel TV and Media Training Worldwide. There she got the opportunity to report from the “Sex and the City: The Movie” red carpet and interviewed Sarah Jessica Parker, Indina Menzel, and even Donald Trump.
After that Jackie was hooked and returned to the back home to the Northwest to go back to school. But first she took a job as a 911 Dispatcher/ Public Information Officer at Skamania County Sheriff’s Office to get her feet wet working on the radios and handling stressful situations.
Jackie ended up staying for four years because she loved it so much. But she knew she needed to continue her path towards Television. She completed the Integrated Media: Broadcasting program at Mt. Hood Community College and interned at KOIN TV in Portland.
In her career so far Jackie had her own series called “Acts of Kindness” in Medford where she featured good deeds done by members of the community. Here in KVAL you can catch her first story in her new series called “Taking Another Look: Cold Cases of Western Oregon” in November.
In her spare time she loves reading, traveling, anything to do with Kate Middleton, trying new restaurants and breweries (she always looking for recommendations) and of course chasing her three year old daughter Gemma around. Jackie and her husband are also enjoying becoming Duck fans!
Feel free to shoot her a message or an email with any local story ideas!
