1 dead, 2 injured in high-speed crash north of Coos Bay

COOS BAY, Ore. - A driver died and two passengers were injured when their car went off the Trans Pacific Highway and hit a power pole at a high rate of speed early Friday morning, Oregon State Police said.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. near milepost 1, north of Coos Bay/North Bend.

Investigators say Jourdan Ackerman, 30, of North Bound was driving a Chevy Caprice eastbound at high speed when the car left the road.

The car hit a power pole and came to rest near the bay, police said.

Ackerman died as a result of the crash.

Two passengers - Zane Wood, 18, of Coos Bay and Rebekah Aaron, 19, of North Bend - were taken to Bay Area Hospital by ambulance. Police said they are expected to survive.
