American Red Cross looks for volunteers to help in Carolina's
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - If you want to assist those affected in the Carolina's by Hurricane Florence, the American Red Cross will be an information event in Springfield on Tuesday, where you can sign up to be a volunteer.
As North and South Carolina get battered by Florence, Red Cross workers in our area are looking for volunteers to help out.
The American Red Cross deployed almost forty volunteers from the Cascades Region. They're among two thousand volunteers helping in the two hundred emergency shelters.
The organization covers more than just national disasters, as incidents can happen locally.
"When we do have our volunteers leave, we have to have someone to fill in for them, house fires still happen and we still do preparedness events, we have other things that keep doing locally," said Denise Suarez, Red Cross Senior Volunteer Specialist.
Deployment lasts two weeks, and flights to the Carolina's are typically covered by donations.
If you're interested in volunteering, you can sign up early or do it with the Red Cross at Tuesday's event.
The event will be held at the RiverBend Annex in Springfield on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. to noon.
