REEDSPORT, Ore. -- The Chainsaw Carving Championships are coming back to the Oregon coast this week in Reedsport.

The 18th annual competition kicks off on Thursday.

40 carvers from across the nation and the world are entered in this year's event.

Carvers will be visiting from countries including Uganda, Japan and Argentina.

During the four-day event carvers will work on quick pieces. The main show pieces will be judged on Sunday.

"I cannot explain how amazing it is what these people create in such a short time with the tools they have,” said event co-chair Frank Barth. “You have to come see it for yourself. I'm telling you, I've been at this for four years as a co-chairman and one of the reasons I do it is because this event is so spectacular."

The Chainsaw Carving Championships begin at 7:30 Thursday at Rainbow Plaza in Reedsport.

Admission is $5 a day or you can get a four-day pass for $15.

You can find more information at the event's website and Facebook page.
