City of Coos Bay prioritizes repair of decades-old storm drains
COOS BAY, Ore. -- You may have seen various construction sites around Coos Bay.
The City is looking to fix some decades-old drains and has three storm drain replacement projects in the works.
One is along Sixth Ave., another along Golden and the last is on Ocean Boulevard, where a sinkhole formed because of old storm drains.
City officials say the biggest challenge comes from having an old system, which often needs more work than the City has the money to do.
The Coos Bay City Engineer tells us there's a likely chance another pipe could fail in the near future.
"We have an aging infrastructure," says city engineer Jennifer Wirsing. "We're actually not unlike most of the other cities in this nation. We are doing the best we can, but the truth is there's just not enough resources to do every single project, so we're tackling them from a priority basis."
Wirsing says the three projects will be completed in the next few months.
