Coos Basin Salmon Derby helps fund fish enhancement & education projects
NORTH BEND, Ore. -- The Oregon coast is famous for salmon fishing and last weekend, fishermen were out trying to catch the big one for cash prizes.
The 18th Annual Coos Basin Salmon Derby kicked off with a barbeque and silent auction at the North Bend Community Center Friday night.
Tickets for the two-day derby on Saturday and Sunday were sold for $25.
"It's a great event you know, kids 11 and under fish for free with a paying adult so they can win a prize as well,” said the derby’s Dezeri Royce. “There are categories strictly for the youth division so they can give their parents a run for their money."
Proceeds from the derby go to fish enhancement and education projects in the region.
Information and details are on the Coos Basin Salmon Derby Facebook page.
