COOS BAY, Ore. -- The Coos Bay Fire Department responded to a reported house fire Sunday evening at 1115 Fenwick Avenue.
Officials say firefighters encountered "billowing heavy, black smoke" when they arrived, according to a news release Monday afternoon.
Excessive debris and personal property around the home hampered access to the structure, City officials said.
The report says inside the home, firefighters found more items piled high (clothes, furnishings, and effects) that added to the fire load and blocked firefighting efforts.
Firefighters from North Bend Fire Department were called to assist with extinguishing the blaze.
Officials say the fire was determined to have started in the master bedroom, but the cause is not clear and the investigation continues.
The damage to the home and contents were extensive, officials said.
The fire was reported by neighbors just before 6 p.m. The home owner told investigators he had left the residence just prior to the start of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
