Egyptian Theater celebrates 90th birthday in Coos Bay
COOS BAY, Ore. -- It's been nearly a century since the Egyptian Theater in downtown Coos Bay first opened its doors.
Over the weekend the community celebrated the theater's 90th birthday, complete with a cake.
Paul Quarino performed on the mighty Wurlitzer organ and guests learned about the history of the rare community treasure.
"There's not that many Egyptian Theaters left," said Brian Leigh. "People should learn to appreciate the fact that you've got history right here on Main Street, downtown Coos Bay. It's a living legacy for this area and people should pay attention to that."
The theater also showed off its new digital projector and sound system with a film showing what Coos County looked like back in 1930.
