Fire crews respond to grass fire in Applegate

Firefighters are responding to an slow moving grass fire off Upper Applegate and Little Applegate Roads.

Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District say, they received the call around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday with the fire at around one-acre.

The fire spreading and spotting up slope near 2 homes. Despite the fire threatening the homes, none were harmed; a nearby barn was deemed a total loss.

The fire is now at 3 to 4 acres and stands at 50 percent containment.

Crews ask for the public to be cautious of an increase of fire traffic in the area.

Despite the slow-moving nature of the fire, occasional wind gusts are causing the fire to spot.

Firefighters expect to have the fire fully contained within the hour.
