COOS BAY, Ore. -- With Halloween in the rearview mirror, the holiday shopping season is underway on the south coast of Oregon.

Coos Bay Downtown Association teamed with 22 local businesses for a Holiday Open House.

Early shoppers were treated to refreshments and door prizes as they as went from store to store.

"It gives the chance for the community to come down and see what shops are new, to be able to walk around and see more than one shop and enjoy what's downtown and help shop local," said the Association’s Beth Clarkson.

One shopper talked to us about why she shops locally.

"I think it's important to shop locally so that our communities continue to take in revenue, which then supports schools, police departments, fire departments, and things that need funding from our communities," said Courtney Webber of Coos County.

The Holiday Open House wrapped up on Saturday.
