Human skull found along Interstate 5 in Roseburg; no other remains found in search
ROSEBURG, Ore. - A highway crew found a human skull while performing maintenance along Interstate 5 on Wednesday morning.
Oregon State Police does not believe there is an ongoing danger to the public. The skull looks "old," Lt. Steve Mitchell said.
Oregon Department of Transportation staff called state police Wednesday morning after a crew reported finding the skull near the northbound I-5 exit to Harvard Avenue.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office searched the area with dogs, state police said.
No additional bones or remains were located in the search, police said.
So far, state police can only say the skull belonged to an adult human. Forensic investigators will work to identify the person.
Police also don't know whether someone placed the skull where it was found, or if the skull had been buried and emerged from under the dirt and vegetation.
