Man who shot, killed motorist in Springfield in 2014 now accused of sex abuse

EUGENE, Ore. - A former Marine sniper and UFC fighter who shot and killed a man during a confrontation in Springfield in 2014 now faces accusations of sex abuse involving an underage female athlete he coached.

Eugene Police arrested Gerald Roy Strebendt, 39, on a charge of Sex Abuse in the Second Degree.

"Strebendt is reported to have sexually abused an underage female athlete that he was coaching," Eugene Police said in a statement. "Detectives are concerned that there may be other victims and would like anyone with information to call Detective Cliff Sites at 541.682.5147. Strebendt has been affiliated with 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu."

Strebendt shot and killed David Crofut in January 2014 during a confrontation on Bob Straub Parkway.

Strebendt claimed self-defense. Springfield Police later arrested him on suspicion of murder.

Strebendt later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Criminally Negligent Homicide with a Firearm. He was sentenced to less than 5 years in prison.
