COQUILLE, Ore. -- A Coquille man was arrested after he crashed his vehicle, injuring another driver and sending a 7-year-old to a Eugene hospital with serious injuries, police said.

According to Coos County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was dispatched Wednesday to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Fishtrap Road and Arago Fishtrap Road in Coquille.

Police say the deputy found an injured woman who was driving a Chevy pickup with injuries. The truck had substantial front end damage.

The second vehicle, driven by 46-year-old Richard Dockery of Coquille, was a Chevy Tahoe and had significant damage to the passenger side.

Dockery and the injured boy had already left the scene in another vehicle, the report said.

Two weapons--brass knuckles and a stiletto knife--were found inside of the Chevy Tahoe, police said.

The female driver was transported to Coquille Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

Dockery was located when he took the injured boy for treatment at Coquille Valley Hospital.

Investigation indicated Dockery was driving under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crash, police said.

After leaving the scene of the crash, police say he stopped to purchase additional alcohol at a local convenience store before going to the hospital to get treatment for the injured 7-year-old.

A search warrant was served on Dockery to compel a sample of his blood to determine a level of blood alcohol level.

He was arrested and later released in order for him to receive medical care.

He's being referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office for the following charges:

  • 1 x ORS 813.010 Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (Alcohol)
  • 1 x ORS 811.140 Reckless Driving
  • 1 x ORS 163.185 Assault in the First Degree
  • 1 x ORS 163.195 Recklessly Endangering Another Person
  • 1 x ORS 163.160 Assault in the Fourth Degree
  • 2 x ORS 166.270 Possession of Weapons by Certain Felons

The injured 7-year-old was admitted to the Coquille Valley Hospital, then flown by helicopter to River Bend Hospital in Eugene for treatment of serious injuries received during the crash.

"As Mr. Dockery was not booked in no booking photo is available.," the sheriff's office said.
