POWERS, Ore. -- Powers Mayor Robert Kohn says he feels great about the results of March's recall election because there is still a lot he has left to do.

The mayor of the small Oregon town survived the recall election Tuesday along with a city councilman.

Kohn's top project is to rebuild a new wastewater plant for the city.

Additionally, he says he's hoping for grant money for his Safe School Routes project.

"That's one reason I'm happy," the mayor said. "I want to finish what I started. I don't like to quit in the middle of something and we have some major projects that we're working on and we're making progress in the city. I want to see that continue."

145 voted in favor of recalling Kohn and city councilor James Clauson, while 181 voted to keep them in office.

Chief petitioner Robert Leckband says the close count shows there are a lot of people who are unsatisfied.

"Disappointed and sad," Leckband said, "but I'm not that mad about it, no. People voted the way they had to or felt they should."

Leckband says he's now looking ahead to the next election involving the two city officials.
