Protesters express disapproval at Clinton appearance
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Patriot Prayer group protested Hillary Clinton’s Portland speaking engagement outside the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Tuesday, December 12.
Their demonstration was met with a counter-protest by Antifa, and the two groups traded insults and jeers across SW Main Street from around 6 p.m. until the event’s conclusion at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Throughout the evening, both Patriot Prayer and Antifa sporadically marched around the theater. At least one scuffle occurred during one such march.
News about the Alabama special election came just as Hillary Clinton was getting ready to take the stage in Portland.
The former presidential candidate was in Portland to talk about her book, "What Happened."
But news of Doug Jones' apparent win took center stage.
"Honestly, you heard it at the exact same time, and I could hear all the cheers coming from all of you," Clinton said on stage.
"At first, we had no idea what was going on and why people were cheering and screaming and clapping, then someone behind me was like, ‘He won, he won!’ It just exploded; it was awesome,” said Clinton supporter Julia Espinosa of the news.
Clinton also talked about the presidential election, as well as the role of Russian meddling.
She also took a few digs at President Trump.
