COOS BAY, Ore. -- You may have noticed smoke in and around the Pony Creek Watershed, but officials say there's no need to be alarmed.

The City of Coos Bay began burning leftover wood residue and slash on Wednesday.

City officials say the decision to burn the material was made to avoid fire hazards.

They say the burning may continue through to the end of the week.
