Sheriff: Coos Bay man arrested after giving false identity to deputies

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A Coos Bay man was arrested on a probation violation after he gave a false identity to authorities.

At 1:27 a.m. Wednesday, a Coos County Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy recognized a man inside the 7-Eleven store in Empire that was on the "Detainable List," the report said.

Deputies were able to locate 28-year-old William M. Patterson, who gave deputies a false name initially, the Coos County Sheriff's office report said. Deputies confirmed his true identity by utilizing local law enforcement data system.

Deputies checked Patterson through state and national databases and learned he was on the Detainable list through the Coos County Community Corrections Office.

Patterson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Coos County Jail.

He was booked on a single charge of a probation violation and held without bail.

Patterson will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for giving false information to a police officer.
