Sheriff: Sutherlin man charged with manslaughter after passenger dies in DUII crash

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A DUII crash Saturday morning involving a two Sutherlin men is now being investigated as a homicide, Douglas County County Sheriff's Office reported.

Police said 19-year-old Lejay Tyler Cole of Sutherlin was arrested Saturday after crashing the vehicle he was driving on Old Melrose Road in Roseburg, which sent his passenger, 21-year-old Nathaniel Layne Cagle, also of Sutherlin, into the hospital with critical injuries.

The call came into the dispatch center at 3:18 a.m. Saturday.

On Monday, the sheriff's office was notified that Cagle had died from his injuries, police said.

Cole, who police say was intoxicated at the time of the crash, has been arrested on an additional charge of first degree manslaughter.
