Stop, drop and roll: Coos County preschoolers learn fire emergency training
COOS BAY, Ore. -- From "where and why" to "stop, drop, and roll," kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon are continuing to learn lifesaving skills at Safety Town 2018.
It's a program teaching preschoolers safety awareness and preparedness before they head to kindergarten.
Tuesday, the Coos Bay Fire Department came out for the special lesson.
They say it's a great opportunity to make sure kids can be aware and calm in an emergency.
"(We) hope that they're not scared in the event of an emergency," explains firefighter Anthony Saccente. "I know I got worked up when I was a kid. I hope that they are able to act under pressure and get the 911 system going."
The kids also got a chance to tour a fire truck and even got to honk the horn.
If you're interested in Safety Town 2018, it's a $25 week-long program that includes snacks and a t-shirt.
