CURRY COUNTY, Ore. — Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire in Curry County.

Around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, August 31, Curry County Sheriff's Office received a tip that the residence at 94494 Shadow Lane was engulfed in flames.

The report further indicated that the residence, detached garage and surrounding vegetation were all on fire.

The initial reporter told dispatch that the residence was vacant and the owners were believed to be out of town, which was later confirmed by fire personnel.

The fire was successfully extinguished before spreading to surrounding property, but the main residence and detached garage suffered major structural damage.

On Friday, it was determined that the fire had suspicious origin.

The Curry County Sheriff's Office began working with the Oregon State Police Arson Task Force, processing the fire scene and collecting evidence.

During the initial investigation, it was determined that the origin of the fire is suspicious in nature, and more than likely than not, purposely set by unknown suspects.

There is also evidence to suggest that prior to the fire, the residence was burglarized and an undetermined amount of personal property had been removed.

The Curry County Sheriff's Office is working with the home owner and family members to obtain a more accurate accounting for any personal property that was stolen versus that which was lost as a result of the fire.

If you have any information on the incident, you are encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office at 541-247-3243.
