HERMISTON, Ore. (KEPR) - A two-year-old is critically hurt after police say the child was accidentally shot in the head.

Hermiston police learned the child was shot by a seven-year-old sibling November 10, after Good Shepherd Hospital reported the shooting just before 5 p.m.

The Pendleton Police Department interviewed the seven-year-old with the help of a child forensic interviewer, reports said. Umatilla County Sheriff's Office also responded to the shooting.

The child is in critical condition in a hospital outside the area of the incident.

No charges have been filed yet, but police said Child Protective Services are assessing the situation and the Umatilla County District Attorney is reviewing the case.

Hermiston police want to remind people to safely store guns away from children, and gun locks are free at the Hermiston Police Department. For more information, call 541-567-5519.
