An electric surfboard that can zip you along the water at 35mph has been launched.

The RÄVIK is available to order at a total price $21,800, with deliveries starting in September.

It is the creation of Swedish firm Awake, who say it is "the culmination of 18 months of development, testing, and perfecting."

The company states: "The result is a power packed electric machine that provides the riders with an amount of adrenaline that will keep them Awake for the next 24 hours."

Controlled by a handheld, wireless throttle, users can also check on board stats with a 1 inch display showing battery level, speed, and rider mode.

There is also an automatic system shutdown if the product is turned upside down.

Awake says: "RÄVIK, Awake’s premier creation, is the first in a developing series of electric surfboards that does exactly what the tagline suggests; it redefines mobility on water. The development of the RÄVIK is a collaboration between senior designers, electro- and mechanical engineers, software developers, and production industry professionals. Our goal has been to deliver a new benchmark within the electrical crafts segment, and no compromises have been made in our pursuit. The result: An electric machine that thrusts the rider to speeds of up to 30 knots (56 kph/ 35 mph). Just one glance is enough to sense its raw power, and the ride delivers. The streamlined, hydrodynamic carbon body of the RÄVIK is designed to trigger adrenaline both in and out of the water. Simply have a look, and tell us what you feel."

Philip Werner, Awake Founder and CEO, says: “The market for electric surfboards has seen a stagnation in new products that push the limits of what these machines can do. Not much has happened in respect to power and agility, and even less attention has been given to exterior design and user experience. The Awake RÄVIK completely disrupts the existing arena, and is our statement that great design and great performance belong together.”
