Coast Guard rescues 3 crabbers, searches for 4th off Oregon Coast
NEWPORT, Ore. The Coast Guard rescued three crab fishermen and searched for a fourth in the Pacific Ocean off Newport on Tuesday.
The Coast Guard received an emergency beacon notification around 5 a.m., registered to the fishing vessel Sound Leader from Newport.
After repeatedly attempting to contact the vessel over the radio, the Coast Guard launched a motor lifeboat from Newport and a helicopter from North Bend.
Both crews arrived at the last position indicated by the beacon to find a debris filed and three people in the water.
The helicopter crew hoisted two of the survivors to safety and flew them to safey. The motor lifeboat rescued the third survivor.
Two additional boats from Yaquina Bay and a helicopter from Newport are on scene searching for the fourth person who was aboard the vessel.
