Fatal rafting accident on the Rogue River
JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. —
A man died Saturday afternoon in a rafting accident on the Rogue River.
Dennis Sanders, 72, was rafting with family members down the Rogue River at a rapid known as Wooldridge when Sanders' raft struck a rock. He, as well as the rest of the rafters in the boat, were thrown into the water. Family members were able to get Sanders out of the water and perform CPR, according to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office. They brought him to the Grave Creek boat ramp, and called for help.
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office responded to the medical call. Personnel observed Rural Metro Fire perform CPR for 45 minutes after responding, but Sanders never regained consciousness. He was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
