COQUILLE, Ore. -- On the heels of a highly successful football season last year, the Coquille Red Devils are ready for the new season.

Last year, the Red Devils came within a touchdown of making it into the state championship game.

Coquille won playoff games over St. Mary's and Cascade Christian before losing by six to Harrisburg in the semis.

It was the first semifinal appearance for the Red Devils in 46 years.

Coquille finished the season with an 11-1 record.

"We’re as good a team as we had last year or better,” says coach David Thomason. “Our goal is to go undefeated again, win league like we have the past two years, make it to state and win it. And these guys are very focused on that and I can't wait to get there."

Coquille opens the season at home against Gold Beach this Friday night at 7 p.m.
